What Is The Aamganj Parables?
In the climate vulnerable coasts of Bangladesh, impoverished girls and women are deprived of many basic facilities, including those associated with their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Riddled with a myriad of gynecological complications, the journey from teenage to adulthood is accompanied by shame and taboo surrounding their bodies. The issues are further complexed by the impacts of a changing climate.
Yet, the interlinkages between climate change and women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) are still under explored; the two topics still being taught in silos.
In light of the above concerns, the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) has initiated the project ‘Walk the Walk: Interactive Tool for Climate Change and SRHR Education’ which aims to enhance understanding of some of the interlinkages between climate change and women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) amongst university students using storytelling and gamification. The project is supported by the Woman and Earth Initiative (WORTH) which is an innovative programme and fund formed by ARROW and the Danish Family Planning Association (DFPA) that aims to create a platform, where civil society can unleash creativity and develop innovative integrated solutions to gender equality, SRHR and climate change adaptation challenges.
The Aamganj Parables has been developed under the project as a collection of interactive fictional stories depicting some of the scenarios currently being faced by women and girls in the southern coasts of Bangladesh. Most of the content has been informed by the findings of a research study conducted as part of this project.
